BarterNola community agreements

Terms & dispute guidance

Good trades start with clear expectations, honest communication, and care for each other’s business.

Draft for legal review · October 15, 2026. This is proposed policy language, not a finalized legal agreement or legal advice. A Louisiana attorney should review the operator’s identity, liability provisions, consent process, and reporting procedure before these terms are adopted.

1. A place to connect, not a guarantee

BarterNola helps businesses discover offers and needs, propose trades, and communicate. Each exchange is an agreement between the participating members. BarterNola is not a party to that exchange, does not supply the traded goods or services, and does not insure or guarantee their quality, safety, value, legality, or delivery.

A profile, listing, or rating is not an endorsement, professional certification, or background check. Verify credentials, references, licenses, and insurance when relevant.

2. Each member’s responsibilities

  • Describe offers honestly, including defects, limitations, exclusions, and the agreed value.
  • Only offer goods you have the right to trade and services you are qualified and legally permitted to provide.
  • Deliver what you agreed to, protect property entrusted to you, and communicate promptly if something changes.
  • Obtain any required licenses, permits, and appropriate business or professional insurance.
  • Respect confidential information and do not post fraud, threats, harassment, unlawful goods, or misleading claims.

3. Put the agreement in writing

Before accepting, use the trade conversation to confirm exactly what each member will provide. For higher-value or complex work, use a separate written contract reviewed by your own adviser.

  • Quantity, condition, scope, deliverables, and agreed fair-market value.
  • Delivery date, location, milestones, and who pays shipping or other expenses.
  • Who is responsible for storage, handling, damage, and loss while property is in their care.
  • How you will inspect or approve the work, and any revisions or warranties.
  • What happens if either side cancels, delivers late, or cannot complete the agreement.
  • Agreed remedies such as repair, replacement, re-performance, return, or another mutually accepted resolution.

Keep copies of the agreement, messages, photos, delivery receipts, and any changes both sides approve. Marking a trade complete does not itself settle a dispute or waive legal rights.

4. When a trade goes wrong

  1. Document the issue. Save the trade details, relevant messages, photos, and evidence of what was delivered or damaged.
  2. Contact the other member. Explain the difference between the agreement and the result in the trade conversation. Propose a specific remedy and a reasonable response date.
  3. Record the resolution. If you agree on a fix, write down who will do what and when. Do not mark unfinished work complete simply to end the conversation.
  4. Get independent help if needed. If direct discussion fails, consider a mutually agreed mediator, a Louisiana attorney, or an appropriate court. Report suspected crime to the relevant authorities; contact emergency services for immediate danger.

BarterNola currently has no dedicated in-app dispute-reporting form. A support contact and reporting process must be confirmed before the policy is finalized. Do not use a public review to share private documents or sensitive personal information.

BarterNola does not promise mediation, a binding decision, reimbursement, replacement, or compensation. Any future assistance would not replace the members’ responsibility to resolve their own agreement.

5. Community safety & reviews

Reviews should describe your firsthand experience accurately and respectfully. Under the proposed policy, BarterNola may review evidence and restrict accounts or remove listings involving fraud, harassment, unsafe conduct, or repeated failure to deliver, subject to applicable law. This is not a guarantee that every listing or trade is monitored, and an account action does not decide a private dispute or provide compensation.

6. Platform liability & your rights

To the extent permitted by applicable law, BarterNola disclaims responsibility for losses arising from another member’s goods, services, statements, handling of property, or failure to perform. The platform is provided on an “as is” and “as available” basis, without guarantees of uninterrupted access or successful trades.

Nothing here excludes liability that cannot lawfully be excluded, excuses BarterNola’s own conduct where liability applies, or takes away non-waivable rights. Disclaimers alone do not eliminate legal risk. Any liability cap, indemnity, governing-law clause, or mandatory dispute procedure requires attorney review before inclusion.

7. Taxes, fees & records

Barter can create taxable income even when no money changes hands. Keep fair-market-value records and ask a qualified tax professional about your income, sales-tax, and reporting obligations. BarterNola’s own reporting obligations also require professional review. Trading without cash does not mean trading without taxes.

Membership and transaction charges are separate from the value exchanged between members. Check the pricing page and any charges shown before accepting or completing a trade. This draft does not create a refund guarantee.

Common questions

What if I’m unhappy with the product or service?

Compare it with your written agreement, explain the problem to the other member, and request a practical remedy. An equal dollar value does not guarantee equal quality or satisfaction. If you cannot resolve it together, seek independent advice.

What if someone damages or mishandles my property?

Document the condition before and after the exchange and save receipts. Raise the issue with the member responsible, check your written handling terms and relevant insurance, and seek legal advice if needed. BarterNola does not provide property insurance or a compensation fund.

Does BarterNola guarantee my trade or refund its value?

No. Members supply the goods and services and agree on remedies with each other. BarterNola is not an escrow service or insurer, and ratings are not a guarantee.

Do these terms mean I have waived my rights?

No automatic waiver or recorded acceptance is created by this page or its reminders. This draft needs legal review and an appropriate consent process before it can be treated as a finalized agreement.
